Against the Clean Ending
Why I distrust conclusions
A short argument against tidy endings.
We are taught to land the plane — to bring every essay down onto a smooth runway of resolution. But life does not resolve. It accumulates, and then it stops.
The most honest ending I know is the one that refuses to pretend the story is over. It simply steps back and lets the reader stand where the writer was standing, looking out at the same unfinished view.
